Dear Sir,

I am a student of L4L3, i.e. Second year Licence (group 4).About the books we have to read, I've chosen
"The timeless way of building" by Christopher Alexander and I would like to know if we have to read the whole book or a few chapters and which ones?

Hoping to hear from you soon,I'm sending my kindest regards to you and wish you to enjoy your holidays!

Thanking you beforehand.

Hi

I'm glad you've chosen this book.
If you have it begin right away. The most important part for our purposes is The Quality as it relates to The Tao of Pooh and Siddhartha. Just this section will give you plenty to talk and write about. However, if you have the time try to finish the entire book.

Hi

You should describe a building or some structure that you consider to be of quality.

Speak for about 8 minutes decribing its features. Make sure you include an introduction, summary and conclusion.
Use visual aids, either Powerpoint or transparencies.

Later, you will have to write an essay based on your own presentation which includes the topics presented by others in the class. This will be due a week after you final exam.

For Group 2 your next class is Thursday 15 May at 1pm-3pm.

For Group 4, your next class is Thursday 22 May from 1pm-3pm.

For the 5 students in Group 2 who will be away in Barcelona please send me an email and we will arrange another time.

To help on the concept of 'quality' consult this blog page - go to the sections on 14)The Timeless Way of Building and 5) Our Responses to Beauty and on 13) The Tao of Pooh

best wishes

Ray
